Steps to Prepare for Your Flight Review

Understand the Flight Review Requirements

Before your flight review, take these steps to prepare:

  • Confirm that it has been less than 24 months since your last flight review so you remain current.
  • Review and update your logbook, noting recent flights and areas you want to improve.
  • Make sure you have a valid pilot certificate and current medical certificate (or BasicMed).
  • Think about specific maneuvers or regulations you’d like to focus on during your review.

Choose a Qualified Flight Instructor for Your Review

Choose an instructor who understands your experience level and can help you refresh your knowledge and skills. As a Certified Flight Instructor, I offer personalized flight reviews in Eugene and Creswell that are tailored to your needs. We’ll focus on the areas you want to improve, so you can meet FAA requirements and fly with confidence.

Refresh Your Ground Knowledge

Before your flight review, refresh your ground knowledge to stay sharp on the essentials. We’ll cover:

  • FAA regulations and airspace rules relevant to your flying.
  • Weather minimums and flight planning considerations.
  • Emergency procedures and risk management best practices.
  • Any specific regulations or maneuvers you’d like to revisit.

I can help you brush up on these areas to ensure you’re prepared for a safe and enjoyable flight review.

Practice Flight Maneuvers

During the flight portion of your review, we’ll refresh your hands-on skills by practicing key maneuvers. This session will help you feel confident and prepared for your flight review. We’ll practice:

  • Takeoffs, landings, and touch-and-goes to ensure smooth control.
  • Slow flight, stalls, steep turns, and other fundamental maneuvers.
  • Emergency procedures and simulated scenarios.
  • Cross-country navigation, radio communication, and any areas you want extra practice with.

As your instructor, I’ll tailor the practice to your needs so you can demonstrate proficiency and safety during your flight review.

Complete Your Flight Review

Your flight review includes at least one hour of ground instruction and one hour in the airplane. We’ll review FAA regulations, airspace rules, weather considerations, and risk management on the ground. Then we’ll take to the sky to demonstrate your proficiency in flight maneuvers, navigation, and emergency procedures. Upon successful completion, I’ll endorse your logbook to confirm you’re current and ready to continue flying.

Stay Current and Keep Learning

Even after you complete your flight review, it’s important to stay current and keep learning. Fly regularly to maintain your proficiency, practice maneuvers and emergency procedures, explore new destinations, and consider pursuing additional ratings or endorsements to expand your skills and confidence.
